Touratech DS TrophyIt's happened! The riders of the GS Trophy 2010 take off their helmets at the end of the day and have a big grin on their face. It's always been fascinating to see how happy a man can be after playing in a little bit of sand and gravel.

Touratech GS Trophy"If there's a lion open the throttle," Tomm Wolf, the German sports director of the Trophy 2010, says in his first briefing of the journalists. "I'm not kidding", he adds, with a twinkle in his eyes.

Meanwhile, ten teams from thirteen different nations (USA, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Austria, UK, Italy, Spain, South Africa and Japan) have set up camp at Touratech South Africa. They can't wait to hop on their bikes and just go.

2010 BMW TourenSport Safari

Adventure rider Greg Hanlon took part in the 2010 BMW TourenSport Safari, over some of Australia’s best driving roads in Tasmania.

The island state provides an idyllic environment for lovers of road riding, and this was no exception, with participants covering an average of 325 kilometres per day over a six day period.

Hard Way Across .... Simpson Desert by GS

The blokes at Desert Edge Racing in the ‘Alice’ seemed more than a little doubtful that the three big GS1200 Adventures and two F800GS’s would make it across the Simpson Desert. Particularly as we had chosen to take the French Line, about 200km of high and deeply rutted sand dunes, stretching between Dalhousie Springs in the west to Birdsville in the East.

Encouraged by their ‘optimism’, we made final preparations and restocked supplies before the next and most demanding stage of our journey.
